Dear Michelle & Adrian

Firstly we would like to thank you for the incredible time we had with you.

All our drama with the flights, and you nearly having to break your behind getting us to the plane on time. When you see Mad Max again tell him many thanks for his high speed chase.

You trained the staff to a standard not seen at many places. We think that you two have made the world of difference to Linene, and Paul and all the other directors should be very proud of you.

Best wishes for your busy season ahead.

Lots of love

Hi Adrian,
Thanks to you, Michelle and your staff we enjoyed a fantastic week at Linene. Our experience certainly surpassed our expectations. It was of course wonderful to be the only four guests at the lodge for the week and to receive that personal touch which really made it special, however we noted that your dedication to making sure that your guests are as comfortable as possible and make use of every opportunity to enjoy themselves will ensure that we will plan another trip to Linene.

I have emailed Peter and Heidi of Richter Lures to inform them that I entrusted the testing of the new lure to you and provided them with your email address as well.

Regards,
Mike and Lesle Alder

Hi Wendy, wish I could still be on the island, we had an absolute fabulous time. The fishing was good, although many of the group took knives to a gunfight! They got broken, spooled and badly beaten by some good fish. I had 2 of my reels smashed but luckily I took some extra. I will send you some photos later on... the highlight of my trip were a couple of blacktip sharks, many many fish on dropshot and a stunning 48kg giant sandshark... The new menu is great and Adrian is as good a guide and host as you'll get.

Regards
Werner

Wendy,

Howzit? We're back at work - unfortunately, but had a wonderful time at Linene (despite weather and uncooperative fish!!) mainly thanks to some great efforts from Adrian and Michelle and their team.

Once again thank you and hopefully we'll be in touch next year again!

Cheers.

Hi Wendy,

I am back in the UK.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Linene Island.

Adrian and Michelle made our time there very memorable. They were incredible professional, organised, helpful and friendly. As the only 'honeymoon' couple on the island Adrian and Michelle went out of their way to make our time there special. They arranged some champagne on our arrival, a romantic dinner and breakfast in bed.

Adrian took us on some fantastic fishing trips, some from the shore, sand-bars and some out to sea. They were all amazing experiences and we caught some great fish which I will never forget. I did not take my own fishing gear on the holiday so Adrian leant me some of his personal gear. I was extremely grateful.

I believe Evadne has made contact with Adrian on Facebook and he will be able to access our Honeymoon photos shortly.

Please can you pass on our thanks to Adrian and Michelle.

Kind regards,
Michael and Evadne

Hi Shireen

Just a short note

Everything arranged by MIT was perfect ( as usual ) and thank you very much

The Linene management and staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The accom was good the menu excellent.

The only aspect which was uncontrollable was the fishing. Due to the coming cyclone the surf was bad and we could not get out to the sea. Even the fishing from the beach was BAD.

However my customers enjoyed every bit of the experience and that's what is important for me

Maybe next time the fishing will be better

Hi Wendy,

Myself and 2 friends have just returned from Linene (10th - 16th Sept) and I have to say Linene was everything we expected and more, just fishing fishing and more fishing. The hosts Adrian, Michelle and all their team were excellent and very knowledgeable and made our stay most enjoyable.

Although not the greatest weather we still managed to find plenty of fish every day, and although they were not huge we were all more than impressed they way they fought on 9wt fly and light spin gear..just fantastic !

Two things;

1. Adrian mention you are in the process of procuring a new range of light weight / breathable shirts with the Island of Kings logo, if this is the case and you do XXL size I would be very interested in purchasing three.

2. Adrian also mentioned that we should book any return trips to Linene with yourself, so I would also like to book a return visit for a week from the 28th April to 5th May 07 but only for 2 people. As before we would also like to pre - book sole use of Linene II for 3 days as part of the package.

Look forward to hearing from you

Kind regards
Phil

I had a great time and my wife also enjoyed the scenery and the time out. The staff were great especially Adrian who was so helpful. He knows an awful lot about the sea and fishing and it was great to have him as a guide. I hooked one big shark and while I was trying to land it, another larger shark came and ate most of my shark on the hook. Quite an experience!! We caught quite a few nice fish and released them for another day.

We will certainly be back again for another fishing experience.

Hi Wendy,

What a weekend to say the least!

At the outset I want to compliment Adrian and Michelle on the manner in which we were looked after.

They are a league ahead of the rest that have been there and simply complete your product, Adrian’s knowledge of the fishing all round is incredible and his willingness to help at all times is fantastic. Michelle rounds it all off and in her subtle way ensures all is in place whilst in and around camp.

Well done the entire group were very impressed.

We are definitely looking at returning in April with a group of around 12 people, there will be one or two children as well as non fishing wives.

The beach in front as well as the walks are just fantastic for kiddies and wives to just chill out on.

I will confirm the dates in about three weeks time as the school calendar will be finalized by then, we intend staying for about 5-7 nights and provisionally in the beginning of April whenever the new moon is that will correspond with holidays.

Thank you for the follow up.

Regards,
Warwick

P.S My personal best on fly attached!

Hi Wendy,

We had the most amazing time at Linene. Thank you.

Adrian & Michelle are very gracious hosts. They went out of their way to help us wherever required and also to suggest and help us plan activities. We met interesting and wonderful people there, including management, staff & guests and we left with a sense that we had made many friends on the Island.

We were also really impressed by the staff who are so forthcoming, helpful and friendly. The food also worked out perfectly thanks to José (the chef), Michelle and Adrian. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Linene to other non fisherman such as ourselves.

It is a lovely resort in a beautiful unspoilt area with lots of activities to do for those who love the outdoors.

Kind Regards

Rael Cynkin

“Dear Kerry, Trip was wonderful thank you! We caught something like 40 species of fish with Jaque catching a +/- 43 kG GT. Linene and staff were great. I have never been to a fishing lodge where the fishing guides (Gillies) are so clued up with every aspect of fishing. Adrian and Michelle were wonderful hosts and the food was excellent, really five star. Accommodation was comfortable and clean.”

Just returned from another week at linene. On our last day I caught a huge peacock rock-cod, which Adrian tried to release but it couldn't get back down. Unfortunately, we were rushing off to the airport so the fish was left for Adrian to measure and weigh. I would love to send it in to www.igfa.org for verification of a record (I see Paul Ferreira caught one almost as big in May) .Is it at all possible to get some kind of certificate with the Linene Lode logo etc as a memento for our Shop. This was our second trip to your lodge and was even better than the first…, one of our party caught a 107cm GT on his birthday!!! We'll be back.

Ps. Adrian was a fantastic guide and a half decent barman.

Linene, what an amazing place. Our first day of fishing was awesome, but according to the guide it wasn't good at all. To us that was the most amazing saltwater fishing we ever experienced. We really worked hard these past few days to catch fish. The weather was not really good, the wind was blowing each day, but at least it was hot. We caught some fish on fly in the deep sea, and on bait and while trolling. Yesterday while traveling on boat to Vilanculos from Linene, it was low tide and the scenery was just so beautiful. We definitely want to try and go to Linene again.

What can I say, this place is absolute paradise, service was excellent, staff where very friendly and always willing to help out where ever possible to make our trip perfect.

I will and have recommended Linene to friends and colleagues over here in London, I am pretty sure you will be hearing from some Irish friends of mine in the near future, as well as my self again.

We had an excellent time, thank you. Adrian, Michelle & the rest of the staff looked after us like kings, we would definitely like to return some time, and we will certainly recommend Linene to our friends.

Back from a truly wonderful time. Most important, Karen enjoyed it so much that she is already planning return. Please send our best and thanks to all at Linene for making the trip so much fun and a wonderful stay.

Hi Wendy,

I trust you are well. I would like to pass on some feed back about my recent stay if I may, Linene is lucky to have an extremely competent angling "expert" in Adrian. He really does know his stuff and is very willing and keen to help and pass on his knowledge ensuring the angler has the best chance of success in the Linene area. Most lodges take your money and leave you to your own devices, this is where Adrian's knowledge of the area certainly makes the difference. He definitely is an asset and I could see his disappointment when I wasn't catching fish!

Stywe Lyne Tight Lines July 2003

I would like to share some information with other keen salt-water lure anglers on an excellent spinning destination on the Mozambican coast. Linene Island Lodge is situated on a small island in a estuary on the Southern side of the San Sebastian peninsula, across the bay from Vilanculos. Linene Lodge was built specifically to cater for fishermen and is located in one of the best areas in Mozambique for shore based angling. Sand Sebastian has long been known to be a first class area to target big kingfish and an assortment of other gamefish from the beach. A video made there some years ago, entitled 'In search of the Giant Trevally' resulted in the area becoming a Mecca for those wanting to do battle with big kingfish. Linene is sited conveniently to offer anglers the opportunity to fish the best of the whole San Sebastian area. This being the Sand Spit at the mouth of the estuary. The estuary is tidal and there is movement of massive shoals of baitfish into and out of the mouth as the tides change. Mostly these are shoals of estuarine round herring and scads, both of which are first choice on the menu for Mozambique's gamefish.

The predators patrol the deep channels around the estuary mouth on the changing tides, making dashes into tightly packed shoals of baitfish which are being swept around by the powerful currents. It is amazingly exciting to stand on the spit as the sun rises over the sea and watch as baitfish come spraying out of the water in a silver shower, as the water foams and churns behind them from smashes by ferocious predators. These chases happen all over the show, from out in the channel, to right up against the beach, with baitfish frequently stranding themselves on the sand in a desperate effort to get away.
There are a couple of reasons why this area is associated with giant kingfish in particular. Firstly there are many of these huge predators in the area. They patrol the channels along the beach and even enter the estuary in their search for prey. Giant kingish are one of the most difficult fish to land from the side due to their habit of rushing to the nearest patch of reef as soon as they are hooked and cuttin gthe line on a piece of sharp coral or rock. Linene is one of the few places that there is no reef where big kingish regularly come close inshore. This results in an extremely good hookup to landing ratio of giant kingfish, making it possible to catch these big fish on lighter tackle than they could normally be landed on.
Kingfish are not the only predators that can be caught at the estuary mouth and off the beaches at Linene. Other gamefish species such as king mackerel, queenfish, springer and sea pike are regularly taken on spoon off the beach.

Light tackle and fly-fishing for some of the smaller gamefish is also exciting. There seems to always be shoals of wolf herring, garfish and needle-scaled queenfish around the spit. Many smaller species of kingfish such as greenspot kingfish, bluefin kingfish, yellow spotted kingfish, big eye kingfish etc. are caught regularly around the estuary mouth area and provide excellent sport on light tackle.
The shorebreak along the beach is full of sea lice and spotted pompano can be caught there fishing small leadhead jigs and flies. I have also caught a snub nosed pompano on fly at the estuary mouth.
the estuary itself is fun to fish with light tackle. The deeper channels regularly provide king mackerel, kingfish, queenfish and sea pike. While the shallower banks and reef patches are good for sand gurnard, river snapper, malabar rock cod and a variety of other juvenile game fish. The channels in the estuary can be trolled from a boat or one can spin with plugs spoons and figs from a boat on the drift.
Linene has a couple of boats to offer offshore fishing to those who are keen to try something different. The continental shelf is very close in off Linene, with the water dropping away only one kilometre offshore. This area is very productive for sailfish and there are some very good wahoo and yellowfin tuna in the area. There is extensive reef that can also be fished from a boat. These reefs are great from plugging, jigging and fly fishing and one can encounter most kingfish species over them, incluiding hard fighting bludger kingfish, as well as plenty of king mackerel, kawa kawa, job fish, cobia and queen makerel.

Because there is no reef off the beach at Linene it is also a good spot to try some night spinning, a dimension of the sport that has still not been well explored in Mozambique. Judging by the number of good gamefish caught off these beaches at night by bait fishermen, I am sure that night spinning should be very productive. I have had some success fishing the estuary mouth area at night wiht light tackle, having caught a number of big eye kinfish this way.
The lodge itself can sleep twelve guests, so the beach is never crowded, which is a big plus. The lodge has thatched wooden chalets, which are joined to the main bar/dining area by a system of boardwalks. Rooms have en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water. The beds each have individual mosquito nets. The lodge has a bar with an endless supply of beer and soft drinks but they have no problem with guests bringing their own drinks. The lodge has a magnificent view over the estuary and the beach, being situated on a pretty little island in the estuary itself. Food at the lodge is filling, tasty and more like simple home cooking than fancy hotel food, just what the hungry fisherman needs at the end of a long day! - by Craig Thomassen
